2018 Trends: How To Mix and Match
I am loving some of the trends of that I'm seeing for 2018--ruffles, checks, sequins, fringe, buckles, and my favorite, PASTELS! :))))
There is an age-old adage (I think) that says you shouldn't try to wear more than one trend at a time. I am here to tell you that it is a-OK to mix trends!
Here's is my number one piece of advice when it comes to wearing trends:
Don't wear something just because it's trendy. Wear something because you love it, or it looks good on you, or that it allows you to express yourself. Those are all great reasons to wear things. Trends are just observations and they don't need to be followed!
That being said, it's totally okay to wear more than one trend in an outfit. Like any outfit, all that matters is that the articles of clothing work together to achieve the look that you're going for.
This outfit pairs a few trends together--the pastels, shoulder cut-out and ruffles on the shirt, with wide-leg culotte pants. But it works because the pant is classic in nature even though it's a "trend" right now. Your eye is focused on the top, which is complemented by the subtle nature of the pants (and shoes!).
I have hard time finding cropped culottes because I like them to hit just below my knee. A lot of the times, the ones that I see are either too long or too short. I included the ones I'm wearing in these pics below as well as a couple similar cropped options that are similar in length. Though you may have to experiment to see what works for you and your height. I also included a pair of longer pants that I came across, just because I thought they were gorgeous and at a good price point!
New Year, New Style
For those of you that are local to D.C., next weekend (Jan 20th) I will be presenting some of my favorite trends for 2018 at an event with Current Boutique with some other local D.C. bloggers! Current Boutique is an upscale consignment shop and they have several locations in the area. What I love about this event is that it shows that even though an item is a trend, it can be repurposed, mixed and matched with other items (new or old) and can be worn again and again.
