Healthier Vanilla Milkshake
This. Milkshake. Is. Amazing.
Seriously, and it's also fairly healthy and low calorie too!
It tastes just like a vanilla milkshake, with a hint of banana flavor.
The frozen banana is really the magic ingredient in this recipe. It ads a creaminess just like the ice cream would, except way less fat and calories.
I do use whole milk in this recipe. I think it helps give that true milkshake flavor. If you're freaking out over the fact that this recipe calls for whole milk, read this: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/whole-vs-skim-milk#section8
This recipe makes 2 servings at less than 200 calories per serving (182 calories to be exact).
I have also tried this with almond milk. It still tastes good, but the almond milk makes it more like a smoothie and less like a milkshake. So, if you really want the traditional vanilla milkshake taste, I'd say stick to the (whole) dairy milk on this one.
Here's the recipe:
- 1 large frozen banana (cut in half--do this before you freeze it!)
- 1 cup whole milk (you can use 2% or skim but whole milk tastes the best here)
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 cup ice
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract (you may need to adjust this depending on the type of vanilla you use. Some brands are stronger than others).
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
Put all of these ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. If your blender gets stuck, add a little bit of water to get it going.
Once blended, pour into glasses, or for extra fun, a mason jar!
