I’m so excited that you’ve arrived at my blog. My name is Elyse, and I live and work in Washington, D.C.
I started this blog because I love clothing and putting different outfits together, especially when it comes to 9 to 5 work wear for women, because there really aren’t a ton of options out there and sometimes it’s hard to find good clothing for work! My hope is that this blog serves as a source of inspiration for working women. You can see all my work looks in the 9 to 5 style section.
I also really enjoy cooking, traveling and hanging out with my friends and family. I have a lot of things that I am doing on any given day (including a full time job!) so another one of the things that I am passionate about is productivity. I am always thinking about how I can create efficiencies to get more done and improve quality of life. You’ll see some of my thoughts on that topic, especially as it relates to work/life balance in the Career & Productivity section of my blog.
Next, you’ll see a couple other sections that I am passionate about:
Relationships: The ability to acquire and maintain quality, impactful and lasting relationships, both personal and professional is a skill that can go a long way in providing fulfilling happiness and professional success. I spend a lot of time thinking about how people form and maintain relationships and how outside factors (economic, technologic, etc) are impacting the way we communicate with others—especially as it applies to dating. I feel that I am currently in a very fulfilling relationship with my partner, Matt. And so does he! So we are constantly analyzing what we do that makes our relationship work, what we do to fix it when it’s not working, and what we did before when we were both single. Are we weird? Maybe, ha! But I hope that these insights we mine and develop are helpful for those of you that are looking to create your own impactful, quality and lasting relationships.
Weeknight Meals is a section that contains quick, healthy and easy recipes that you can put together on a weeknight when you come home from work, are tired and don’t have the time or energy to put together a gourmet meal with tons of steps and ingredients. My philosophy when it comes to food is that it should be simple and healthy. I focus on eating and cooking with whole foods, and try to limit anything processed. One of my favorite cookbooks that epitomizes this philosophy and is the inspiration for a lot of my recipes is called, “Live to Eat” by Michael Psilakis.
Out of Office is the travel section of my blog, where I detail info about all of our adventures at home and abroad. Side-note: Believe it or not, I never used to like to travel! But then I met a guy whose job takes him overseas all the time. Dating him was the catalyst I needed to get out of my comfort zone and start traveling more often. And I am so glad that I did! Now, I can’t get enough.
And finally, my overarching philosophy, which is to savor life is infused into every post I write on this site. I am a young breast cancer survivor (which you can read more about here) and I know that we do not have as much time as we think we have on this earth. Life is fleeting and it can change very quickly. My mission, when I wake up every morning is to have awareness and to be grateful. I practice awareness in order to understand and reflect upon what is going on internally and externally with my relationships and personal goals, and I practice being grateful so that I can fully appreciate every life moment that has the potential to bring joy. Joy is what we all live for, and it can be found more often when we are aware and grateful.
I hope you enjoy this blog and find it helpful in fueling your own self-reflection and personal goals. Please get in touch if you’d like to chat or sign up for my newsletter! I love hearing ideas about potential content, collaboration, or just any comments in general.
